@CherylSmith & @Andrealopez - there is much more controversial that i did not print for reason. But i think you both are correct. I am agreeing with the words for the most part, but the tone is very off. And if you are writing to 16 yr old boys/girls it's one thing. It you are referring to 35 yr old men as having a get out of jail free card when it comes to self control b/c they're men and they just can't help it. - and it's all the slutty provocative woman's fault - then I have a problem with that. Men do have responsibility to maintain some respectibility, as do the women. I also think he's missing the boat here to write as if women as not sexual creatures with wants, needs & desires. We are. But those should be met within the bounds of marriage. And men should strive to meet that goal just as much as women. He never talks about that part. Never!

Interesting info here. I hear what the blogger is saying, yet seem to have a problem with the tone, maybe more than the words.

One of the best books I've read on this subject is: Kissed the Girls and Made them Cry by Lisa Bevere. I think she is RIGHT ON THE MONEY with this book and does so in a way that points to God's best and hope for the future.

Let me know if you pick it up and what you think.

Best,
Cheryl

Wow. I got nuthin! Like you, I do agree with some of this...heck, probably more than some. I haven't visited this guy's site, but I'll probably take a peek now. I guess when you really dig into the quotes you posted from him, it almost seems a bit like high school. But then, when I think of some of my experiences and those of my girlfriends and guy-friends the past few decades, high school sort of transfers over. Those basic themes seem to carry through life no matter what age. Good-girl, not so good-girl. Good-boy, bad-boy.

I think we just need to be ourselves whatever that is. At my age...and you and I are close in age, I don't have the energy not to be anything other than myself...what you see is what you get. And I don't have time for games, and my boundaries are what they are and I pray that is okay for him, whoever he is. :)

Dan, your the man! I have been reading a bit on the subject and I think you may have nailed my missing piece of the puzzle. I purchased a Nike Imara HRM from Costco about a month ago and have never set it up. I didn't even know if I would need it but for $35 I couldn't pass it by. Tomorrow I'm running a 5K and have it all set up & ready to go.

Heat is definitely impacting my HR, which is impacting my performance. If you look at my last 3 runs, they were all 4 miles long and I hydrated better on each run. Yet the only run that I had really bad chills and light headedness was the one I hydrated the most, but it was also the hottest & most humid. The other days the heat didn't get to me that much and I didn't feel the same impact.

Thanks for such great info!

PS Awesome Job in Nice! You are a Rockstar! I twittered some of your stats for a while to keep folks updated. It was great to be able to follow along.

Amy, catching up on my blog readn' and wanted to comment here... especially after my heat and humidity meltdown in France. I agree with the NEED for electrolyte replacement... my supplement of choice Endurolytes from Hammer Nutrition (they're considerably lower in sodium for good reasons). But an element that needs to be mentioned and why I slowed in Nice is/was Heart Rate.

Heat has an accelerating factor on heart rate. Since my training had been in mostly mid to low humid conditions in the 60s-70s going to high humid and mid 90s causes the heart to pump more blood to produce a cooling effect on the body. Sustaining a high heart rate whether hydrated or not will have adverse effects on performance is the key reason why people quit in competitive situations. Simply put... there are only so many heart beats to allow you to perform optimally; if you go beyond that too soon you're body knows it and endurance becomes difficult and a gamble. Therefore, for me since my training was less quantity this year and more quality I went in with less "heart beats" and had to conserve as I went along. That's why you'll see in my race report my reason for walking segments was to get the Heart Rate DOWN.

Do you wear a heart rate monitor? if not... ask a coach or read up on the subject and learn to train with HR and learn the instinctive aspect ratio of HR to RPE (rate of perceived exertion). And this can help you train / race to your body's potential rather than what your brain (who will be the best source of talking you out of going on) tells you.

I hope that helps...

My college roommate is a master roaster, so I've been anti-Starbucks for a long time. When you have beans hand roasted for you right at home, nothing else can top that. And this guy KNOWS coffee. One sip of any black coffee you set in front of him and he can tell you what kind of beans they are, where in the world they were grown, how they were roasted, and how long ago ground. And he's right every time. And this guy who knows coffee- HATES Sbux. They burn their beans. On purpose. You cannot drink their coffee black. So instead of a $1.40 cup of black coffee, you MUST get the $4 all things added, just to make it tolerable Andrea's comment above about their coffee being "too strong"...it isn't strong, it's burned. Good coffee, even in espresso, is never bitter...it actually has a smoothness to it. Almost creamy even. All by itself.

BTW, for anyone living near Cincinnati...The Main Cup on Main St in Milford. His name is Steve.

I don't know...Starbucks' regular coffee is too strong for me. But during the winter, there is nothing like a triple-venti-peppermint mocha-soy-no foam-extra hot latte. It just fits my holiday mood....and probably explains the extra 5 pounds I put on.

I'm still fairly new to the old downtown Franklin scene....but now that I work on Main Street, my boss and clients are all about meeting at Merridee's, which I really love. But for some reason I seem to prefer Puckett's. I try to work from Puckett's a couple of mornings a week just to get my grasp of the day before heading to the office, because once I'm in the office all heck breaks lose and I tend not to see the light of day until about 5p or 6p. And that's a good day. :)

A big WHATEVER to those who doubt, Beyond JEMS! I know that can be easier said than done. But for myself, my most creative and successful ideas have come from a feeling I had....a feeling that didn't necessarily have my brain attached to it....if that makes any sense. ;) When I was working in television...I was a part of some very smart ideas....and some equally horrible failures. Very public failures at that. But even those failures I continue to hold as these tiny little treasures (jems) inside of me that no one can take away. Just because other people didn't embrace them as I might have hoped doesn't strip their meaning for me.

I can't remember who said this...but a quote than an old mentor passed along to me which I often refer back to is..."IF YOU FAIL, FAIL GLORIOUSLY!"

The electrolyte additives that my TNT coach uses are called Electro Mix and you can buy them at Wild Oats . They are good way of getting in your electrolytes without unwanted sugars and calories. You can probably google it and find something in the area or on the net to order. Thanks for stopping by Water Coolers!
